WHAT IS FLUENCY

               Fluency is the ability to read text accurately, at an appropriate rate, with expression and phrasing (smoothness). 

WHY FLUENCY

               Fluency is important because it provides a bridge between word recognition and comprehension. ...

               Because fluent readers do not have to concentrate on decoding the words, they can focus their attention on what the text means.

HELP YOUR CHILD WITH FLUENCY AT HOME

1.       Read 20 minutes daily and allow students to retell using the beginning, middle, and end of the story. 

2.       For younger students (PK-Kindergarten), review letters and sounds daily.

3.       Post Sight Words in high traffic areas of your home  and review daily.
