Dear PBY Knights Parents and Guardians,

It is my sincere pleasure to welcome you and your young scholars to the 2026–2027 school year at Plummer Bernard Young, Sr. Elementary School, Excellence & Excellence Learning Center, Our Final Chapter!

As your principal and instructional leader for the past six years, I am honored to continue our tradition of academic excellence through innovative, rigorous instruction and engaging enrichment opportunities that broaden our students' thinking, perspectives, and educational experiences.

I am especially excited that PBY will continue to serve as a model Equity and Excellence Learning Center, where exceptional enrichment opportunities are woven into our daily instructional program. Through the Equity & Excellence Grant, our students have been provided with unique learning experiences that extend beyond the traditional school day. This year, we are committed to providing memorable opportunities that inspire curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.

As we begin PBY's Final Chapter, I want to express my deepest gratitude for the trust you have placed in us to educate and care for Norfolk Public Schools' youngest learners. As a primary elementary school, we recognize the tremendous responsibility of building a strong educational foundation and preparing students for future success. We remain committed to partnering with our parents and guardians to ensure every child receives the highest quality instruction, encouragement, and support from our dedicated faculty and staff.

As I begin my 31st year in education, I am filled with gratitude and hope. It is my sincere wish that PBY's legacy will be remembered as a place where children flourished academically, socially, and emotionally; where every student was challenged to reach their fullest potential; and where educators, students, families, and the community were valued, respected, and embraced as partners in learning.

Although this is our final year, it is also an opportunity to celebrate the rich history, traditions, and countless memories that have made PBY so special. Together, let us make this final chapter our most meaningful one yet, a year filled with achievement, joy, school pride, and lasting memories for every PBY Knight.

I look forward to an incredible school year and encourage all parents and guardians to become actively involved by attending school events, volunteering when possible, and participating in the many opportunities we have planned throughout the year. Your partnership is essential to our students' success, and together we will make PBY's Final Chapter one that will be remembered with pride for years to come.

Thank you for your continued support, and welcome back!

With Knights’ Pride,

Ms. Candiase B. Driver, M. Ed., Principal Plummer Bernard Young, Sr. Elementary School,
